Anonymous Surfing Tips

You don’t have to be a secret agent or hacker to care about anonymity. Even regular users like you and me have plenty of good reasons to care about the privacy and security of our online activity. Almost everything we do on the Web will be logged, analyzed, and used for things outside of our control. – but this does not mean there's nothing you can do about it.

Tip 1 : Anonymous Web browsing

The best thing you can do to stay anonymous online is to hide your Real IP Address. Because this is the easiest way to trace your online activity back to you. If someone knows your IP address, they can easily determine the geographic location of the server that hosts that address and get a rough idea of where you’re located. In general, there are two ways to obscure your IP address and hide your location:

Tip 2 : Private Browsing Mode

Private browsing mode is an option so you can surf the web without recording data on your computer. This means that in private browsing mode, your browsers do not store information on your computer, Web pages are not recorded in browsing/download history, cookies are cleared from the session when you close the window. However, the websites still have a record of your visit.

Tip 3 : Anonymous Email

Using proxies and VPNs, will hide your real IP address from prying eyes, but sending emails presents a different anonymity challenge. Let’s say you want to send somebody an email, but you don’t want them to know your email address. Generally speaking, there are two ways to go about this:

Tip 4 : Change privacy settings of social networks

Social Networksites like Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitte make your information available to different entities for profit, even to ones that you don’t want your information to be given to. So if you privatize your social media settings, you limit the access of other people to your personal information and data.

Tip 5 : Anonymous Communication (Skype/WhatsApp/P2P)

In most cases free proxy servers can be used but need to be configured to anonymize your applications, so VPN is a much better option here. Once connected to a VPN service, All applications on your computer, tablet or smartphone that utilize your internet connection will become anonymous without any extra configuration

Tip 6 : Anonymous file transfers and sharing

Getting files from the Internet is easy, but the sender records your IP address for every donwloaded file. In the case of BitTorrent, there are thousands of different peers that can see your IP address at any given moment, which means downloading is one of the least anonymous things you can do on the Web. However, if done correctly, it is possible to download and share files while keeping your IP address and identity hidden.
